The Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO) has recently announced the opening of its center of excellence "China-Arab BDS/GNSS Center-AICTO" established in El Ghazala Technological Park, Tunis within the scope of the bilateral relationship between the League of Arab States and the People's Republic of China and the cooperation agreement signed by H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Secretary General of AICTO and H.E. Mr. Chengai Ran , CEO of the China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO) in Cairo, Egypt on the 20th of January 2016.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) revealed that the number of data systems provided in cooperation with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority and other government entities on bayanat.ae has reached more than 500 systems, covering various educational, health, environment and other fields. The 10th Telecom Review Summit kicked off in Lebanon on Friday April 13, 2018, gathering the country and region's most influential industry players under one ceiling. Fifth generation (5G) networks will soon be a reality in the Middle East following the successful completion of the first implementable Release 15 5G New Radio (NR) specifications published in December 2017 at the 3GPP TSG RAN Plenary Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. The announcement set the stage for the global mobile industry to start full-scale development of 5G NR for large-scale trials and commercial deployments as early as in 2019.
